Pilot
Pilots fly various types of aircraft, including light planes, helicopters or airline aircraft. They can transport passengers, mail and freight, or carry out other aviation services.
Day-to-day
- Prepare and submit flight plans giving consideration to factors such as weather conditions and aircraft performance
- Fly aircraft in accordance with established air traffic control and aircraft operating procedures
- Make sure passengers are correctly informed of emergency procedures and weather conditions and maintain care of passengers
- Provide flight information for flight crews and air traffic service staff
- Complete cockpit preparations and external inspections to determine that aircraft are acceptable for flight
- Monitor aircraft performance and report on mechanical condition

- You need to pass practical and theoretical exams to qualify for a pilot licence before you can work as a pilot. The Civil Aviation and Safety Authority issues pilot licences. Flight training is available through private flying schools. Completing a formal qualification through either Vocational Education and Training (VET) or university may improve your chances of getting a job as a pilot.
