  • What’s your favourite thing about your job?

Every day is completely different, and I get to meet people from all over the world. It’s a very exciting and dynamic job!

  • What are the key roles and responsibilities in your role?

A lot of what I do involves looking after people and staff. I handle the bookings, such as school excursions and tours, as they come through. I’m also involved in animal training, animal handling, and I get to go out and lead tours and give education presentations.

  • How did you get into tourism and your current role?

I studied education at university and was working as a tutor when one of my clients suggested I apply for a role as an education officer at my local zoo.

  • What’s your advice for someone considering a career in tourism?

Get as much experience as you can, whether that’s through volunteering at your local animal shelter or a zoo in your area or doing volunteer conservation work. It’s important to demonstrate that you have a passion for education and wildlife.
