What’s your favourite thing about your job?
I love connecting with people. Hearing their stories and getting to share those memories and experiences with others. There’s a lot of thinking on your feet and no two work days are the same. My role provides a mix of getting to work in an office and getting to be outside with our visitors, which is perfect for me.
What are the key roles and responsibilities in your role?
I get the best of both worlds within my role as coordinator. I get to be out there, doing tours with guests and I also get to be in the office, doing the background work that helps to run the exhibits. It’s a great balance between the two roles.
How did you get into tourism and your current role?
I got into the tourism industry through a traineeship and it’s been a journey since then. The traineeship evolved into a full time tour guide job, then I moved up into the second-in-charge role within this museum and from there I became coordinator. It’s been great and I wouldn’t look back.
What’s your advice for someone considering a career in tourism?
My advice would be to jump online and have a look to see what’s out there. There are plenty of opportunities, especially in Outback Queensland. You never know what a job in tourism could lead to.
