  • What’s your favourite thing about your job?

I love snorkelling with visitors and getting to show them the Great Barrier Reef. I might be able to show them Nemo, turtles, a stingray or even a giant clam. I’m out there showing guests incredible sights that they’ll remember forever. It’s those moments that make me really enjoy what I do.

  • What are the key roles and responsibilities in your role?

As a marine biologist my main role is to take guests out and to show them the Great Barrier Reef. We do a lot of education as well, which includes presentations, snorkelling tours and guiding. Being a manager, I get to lead a team of around 12 marine biologists.

  • How did you get into tourism and your current role?

I first got into tourism by working in hospitality. It was the perfect career that drew on my love of travel and experiencing new destinations. It was always my dream to work on the Great Barrier Reef and in tourism. I wanted to be out there, enjoying my job.

  • What’s your advice for someone considering a career in tourism?

If you’re thinking of entering the tourism industry my number one piece of advice would be to give it a try. There are many different places where you can get work experience or internships.
