What’s your favourite thing about your job?
I get to connect with guests who travel from all over the world. I think being able to create memories and experiences for them is a unique feeling of fulfillment. It’s an amazing environment to be a part of.
What are the key roles and responsibilities in your role?
My role involves overseeing the bell team. From the moment you check in at the hotel to the moment you depart, it’s my team’s responsibility to make sure you receive the best service. We valet park vehicles, see to it that guests’ luggage gets to where it needs to be but more than anything we are responsible for all guest requests in the hotel. It is a concierge’s standard to never say no but to always go above and beyond.
How did you get into tourism and your current role?
When I was at school, I knew I wanted to be a concierge. I was studying food and beverage at high school and was nominated for the QTIC Salute to Excellence Awards. At the awards I met the general manager of the hotel I currently work at, and he offered me a position as porter. That was my foot through the door.
What’s your advice for someone considering a career in tourism?
Go ahead and get straight into it! The skills you learn from tourism, hospitality or hotels specifically can take you all around the world. You meet so many great people and have an amazing team supporting you. Not many careers offer such unique opportunities.
