  • What’s your favourite thing about your job?

I enjoy showing people what they’re capable of, teaching them new skills and taking them on adventures that they probably wouldn’t do otherwise. It’s a very fulfilling role.

  • What are the key roles and responsibilities in your role?

I meet the guests and help them equip their safety gear. I then talk the guests through the activity and explain all the safety mechanisms and what they can expect from the day, and then we go and have a fun time!

  • How did you get into tourism and your current role?

I got into this current role because I love adventuring and rock climbing. I completed some work experience and loved it so much that I decided to make it my full-time job.

  • What’s your advice for someone considering a career in tourism?

If you’re sociable, good at people skills and have a high attention to detail, becoming an adventure instructor is a job for you. If you’re thinking about jumping into this line of work, I’d recommend getting some work experience, finding out if you love it and then applying for courses that align with the adventure activity that speaks most to you.
