Train drivers drive trains to transport passengers on railways.

Day-to-day

  • Operate the train’s controls
  • Stop at stations and set locations to pick up and set down passengers
  • Open and close doors before and after passengers board or disembark
  • Observe signals, track conditions, nearby traffic and prescribed speeds to ensure safety
  • Monitor indicator gauges, change controls and power supply poles and report operating irregularities
  • Check time and adherence to timetables
  • Might advise passengers on destinations
