Sound technician

Sound technicians operate audio equipment to record, enhance, mix and amplify sound in support of television, radio, film or video productions or stage performances.

Day-to-day

  • Set up and adjust equipment such as microphones, and operate sound mixing consoles and associated equipment to regulate volume and sound quality
  • Select and set up television recording, editing and mixing equipment and adjust and monitor their operation
  • Discuss the production’s sound needs with sound designers
  • Identify places in the script where any sound effects, music and changes in sound level are needed
  • Operate the sound desk during shows
  • Pre-record any sound effects and music to be used
