Light technicians position and control lighting equipment for film, television or video productions or stage performances.

Day-to-day

  • Position equipment, such as spotlights, floodlights and cables, and operate lights during filming, broadcasting and stage performances
  • Interpret a lighting designer’s plan
  • Plan where to run cables and place lights
  • Help to rig up the lighting equipment
  • Program consoles and load automated colour change systems
  • Take cues from the stage manage or floor manager
  • Operate manual and computer-controlled lighting systems
